The Etiquette Series is excited to deliver foundational development for the children of metro-Detroit, Michigan area via the Pathway to Medicine initiative. Our initiative began with aspirations to empower and expand the limitless potential of young minority students. We hope to embark our students on a journey to success. Through collaboration with local and regional schools, we strive to connect our students with the expanded network of medical professionals. With diligence and leadership from our experienced medical team, we strive towards “bridging the gap” for under-represented students interested in medical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our mission is to promote student involvement and retention in STEM, increase diversity in medicine, and invest in youth academic success through high quality education and resources.
We plan to kick off this initiative with one of our school partners, Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology. Board member and senior medical student, Sydney Martin, will be hosting our first workshop through collaboration with Wayne State Dermatology’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Program. This will focus on educating youth about proper skin health, skin of color dermatology and the journey to medicine. We anticipate several events throughout the academic year with potential opportunities for medical professional and student involvement.
Program Objectives:
- Cultivate youth involvement and exposure to medical professionals.
- Promote student involvement and retention in medical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
- Increase diversity in medicine through early exposure, education, mentorship, and shadowing opportunities.
- Invest in youth academic success through high quality education and resources.
- Provide test testing and college planning counsel for school aged children and adolescences.
